The Goodways Methodology

At Goodways & CO, we bring all perspectives of philanthropy together and create integrated solutions for each client that is specific and actionable from day one. Our team will meet your organization where you are—whether its at the very beginning of your journey or after you have been here for some time. Our proven methodology has been thoughtfully crafted from decades of experiences in all aspects of nonprofit. Each perspective adds to the integrated strategies that set your mission apart from the field. We can assist a broad range of nonprofits from startups, to turnaround and even growth strategies. Our mission is to bring your organization to its fullest potential and leave nothing on the table.

Our Scope of Services

Strategic Planning

With the donor’s perspective front and center, we help weave your brand together to raise your profile, better align your donors with your slate of opportunities and build capacity to better serve your constituents. This isn’t an exercise in wordsmithing, it’s amplifying what you do best. No two clients are alike, and we use the Goodway’s Methodology to take you through an experiential journey that sets you on the right path and leverages all your resources.

Brandraising and Communications

We strongly believe that to amplify your mission and set yourself apart in a crowded space, nonprofits need to craft different messages for key audiences. Once that has thoughtfully been done, those messages need to be layered and come through clearly on all your collateral–print, digital and social media. We can guide you through mapping the assets that are working and refreshing those that have gotten murky over time.

Donor Cultivation and Fundraising

Using a sound moves management approach to donor cultivation, we can ensure you make the right ask at the right moment. Equally important, is diversifying your donor base to ward off donor fatigue or become vulnerable to one or two funders. Fundraising is a team effort, so everyone in the organization needs to know the slates of opportunities available to donors and how to present then in a compelling way.

Annual Giving and Events

Some organizations live or die by their annual giving campaigns and cling to tired or outdated events. Goodways will help you integrate these vital funding streams in ways that compliment your brand and help refresh your donor base. Taking a hard look at what it costs and how much staff bandwidth it takes to have your annual event is a useful exercise. Often what worked for years, is now poorly attended and can be a drain on your resources. It’s a new day in charity events and we can help make sure yours is not to be missed!

Board Development and Engagement

When truly engaged, board members will become your nonprofit’s best ambassadors, advocates, strategists, and supporters. Board members want to know their value and thrive when they have a collaborative partnership with the CEO/executive director. Forward thinking organizations are constantly building bench strength, defining give-or-get expectations and providing leadership opportunities for their board members.  We specialize in facilitating task groups or off-site retreats to ensure everyone is taking the same message into the community.

Facilitations and Retreats

Full or half day retreats designed to bring executive staff and board leadership together to refine or refresh the organization’s mission. Not your usual run of the mill wordsmithing session, we will ensure everyone can effectively take your message to the community in a compelling and articulate way.

Our Biggest Fans

“I have had the pleasure of working with Kari over the years on several different charitable endeavors including Heart Ball, the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute & Phoenix Suns Charities. Kari is creative, conscientious, giving & a team player.
She is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to community needs & philanthropy. My greatest joy was working with her to develop a unique & new event to benefit Phoenix Sums Charities during a lockout year when we could not produce our customary Gala. Kari’s vision and ability to think outside the box delivered a wildly successful evening for the charity’s donors & raised critical funds. Thank you Kari for all you do for the communities you live in!”

Kathy Pidgeon Fmr. Executive Director of Phoenix Suns Charities

“I had the great pleasure of working with Kari on fundraising campaigns and I have experienced her contagious passion and commitment to meet and exceed goals. Kari’s commitment to community, strategic thinking, ability to influence combined with her collaborative nature are the hallmarks of an experienced leader. Wherever Kari chooses to share her talents, her community will benefit.”

Andy Kramer Peterson President and Chief Executive Officer, Banner Health Foundation

“I have had the pleasure of working with Kari Yatkowski as a community volunteer, a donor and a fellow Board Member. There are two things that set Kari apart in all these endeavors: her passion for the people and causes she dedicates herself to, and her keen understanding of what needs to be done to achieve stated goals. Many organizations flounder because they establish appropriate goals, but lack the right people with the skills and leadership needed to achieve them. Kari understands how to analyze an organization’s strengths and weaknesses, put the right people in the right positions, and get buy-in, from leaders and from communities. In other words, Kari knows how to get results.”

Lucia Howard Fakonas Howard. Ltd, President and Attorney

“I have known Kari for 30 years, I have watched her develop, guide, and nurture in so many ways, as a person, wife, mother, friend, etc. She is committed, grounded, and available. Her talents are truly unique and enviable. You will not find a more reliable, gracious, or caring, lady, but to possess these attributes along with her knowledge of her community, it’s needs, the non-profit arena, the world of volunteerism, and her amazing leadership skills, you are guaranteed it will be a success.
If Kari is in…… I promise you it’s 100%.”

Penny Gunning Co-Founder, PANDA (People Acting Now Discover Action)

“From the moment I met Kari, it was obvious that she is someone who is ready, willing, and able to get things DONE. I serve as the coordinator/Chair for several groups with which Kari is also involved, and from our first meeting she expressed an interest to get involved and help out in any way she could…and she DID. Not just words, but action…and all with a smile on her face.”

Erika Nanaud Community Leader

“Kari is a force to be reckoned with. She is dedicated to nonprofit causes and knows what it takes to make them succeed. Her commitment to excellence and teamwork is inspiring. She is hardworking, personable, and creative – I absolutely loved working with her, and I hope to collaborate again someday!”

Christina Sandafur Executive Vice President, Goldwater Institute

“I have known Kari for over 15 years and I have to say that in my capacity as a CEO as well as chairman of several nonprofits, her contributions of time as well as money is second to none. She puts her heart, soul and time in any nonprofit/charitable endeavors she undertakes . I don’t know anybody in my community that works harder and more relentlessly than Kari. I have direct experience with her as a fellow board member for Future for Kids. Also, in her avid support of those with Kidney disease through her work with Arizona Women’s Board. Having had 2 kidney transplants, Kari’s work and generosity in this area are near and dear to my heart. Words can’t describe how appreciative I am of what Kari has done in this area and everything she’s done in our community.”

Rich Vogel Founding Chairman, CEO at First Scottsdale Bank

“Approximately 9 years ago, I had the fortune to meet Kari through a unique and life-changing leadership program. The moment we met, I was impressed with her charisma, creativity, curiosity, and outlook on the community around us, to start. However, once we advanced further into the program, I was inspired by Kari’s deep drive to be the changemaker our community (and so many others) needed. Her compassion for those around her (friends and strangers, alike) is unparalleled. Her dedication to leading with grace and humility is contagious and prompts others to follow suit. Kari is a unique individual that embodies an equal balance of empathy and strength…and a bold willingness to tackle the impossible to make things better.”

Melanie Burm Associate Director, Alumni Engagement & Corporate Partnerships at Arizona State University

“Kari’s incredible heart, wide-ranging talents, and masterful network help her lead those she brings together to create before unimagined spheres of big-picture, creative and forward-thinking plans to help the greater good of her community.”

Lynne Love Past Phoenix Heart Ball Chairman and Community Leader

“Kari is a rock star! She led us through complete rebranding and stakeholder audit, to better understand what value we were bringing to entrepreneurs who are solving important health issues. Not only was our mission better understood but the community had greater clarity about what we do in the bioscience sector.”

MaryAnn Guerra Founder and CEO, BioAccel

“I worked with Kari for many years and in every situation, her leadership, knowledge and ability to manage complicated circumstances was masterful. Key to her success was her preparedness and ability to blend the needs of the organization while delivering prudent fiscal guidance all while being extremely positive and building group consensus.”

Pat McGinley Fmr. Chairman of the Board, Homeward Bound
